Postcards from Palm Springs

It has been quite toasty in my  Pacific Northwest corner of the world. Whose complaining ?! Not this girl,  I love heat! Well to a point, I did complain  a few weeks ago when I was visiting the southwest city of Palm Springs.

Palm Springs is a lovely desert oasis located In the Coachella Valley desert region. It is about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, heading east.  Four different mountain ranges surround the city.

The two days I was in here, I did enjoy it very much in spite of the heat. At least it is dry heat, that muggy stuff I no can handle!  It is laid back and kind of a slow type of town. However at night , the streets do come alive. I think anyone who lives there,  turns into a bear and hibernates all day until the sun goes down.  If you are looking for a spot to relax, unwind, and soak up the heat, this is the place for you.

THINGS TO DO IN PALM SPRINGS:

1) Dine at Fun Eateries:

Ruby's Diner was a fun dining experience with a 50's vibe, very yummy food.  You must try the deep fried green beans. I never had them before, sooo delicious!

Across the street is Mexican cuisine at Maraca's . It looked like a hot eating spot.

2) Stroll The Walk of Fame and Downtown Area:

It was cool to see a walk of fame like the one on Hollywood Blvd. Several vintage homes are located in the area that were owned by stars: Lucille Ball, Bob Hope, and Elvis Presley to name a few.

 3) Agua Caliente Casino Resort :

This property was so beautiful. The amenities include 5 restaurants, 2 outdoor pools, and a full service spa. I'm not much of a gambler, but  looking around casinos is always amusing. The majestic architecture keeps me entertained!

4) Swim the Day Away:

It's too dang hot out to do anything else in the daytime here, as the temps can soar well over 100 degrees! It was a scorching 118 both days. Thank goodness for pools, we camped there a good portion of the day! I love how the mountains were nestled so close all around our hotel. We stayed at the Days Inn.

5) Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and San Jancinto Park:

If you can't stand the heat below, there is an escape. Take a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up to San Jancinto Park and Wildnerness area. It is 40 degrees cooler up top. Gorgeous views, hiking trails, and camping await you!  Read my full review of this hair raising ride here in a previous post.

6) Palm Springs Air Museum:

This museum has been voted as one of the top 14 air museums in the world by CNN travel.  A Vietnam display and a program about flight in an authentic warbird are some highlights of this attraction.

I have only touched the surface of the many things this desert city and surrounding areas have to offer.  Desert Hot Springs is one place I missed out on. It is on the list for next time.

It is a lovely hideaway of  resorts situated up high, overlooking Palm Springs.  Here, you can soak away your stress in the natural mineral pools.  These hot pools are known world wide for their healing properties. Calgon take me away!

How about you, do you enjoy visiting the desert? Or would you rather hang out where it's cool? Visiting here was definitely a nice change, and I plan to go back in the near future.

I hope your day is wonderful and if you enjoyed this post perhaps you would like to pin it  for later, or follow along on Instagram for daily inspiration.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

  9. I have actually never been to palm springs, which seems crazy to me because I have gone to California quite often. But one thing is that I am totally opposite from you...I hate hear, I feel like I am going to die in hot weather. I still think palm springs would be fun though, especially after reading your post on all the fun things to do!
