Going a cruise is super exciting, but also can be frustrating if you aren't prepared with the right wardrobe. As I mentioned in a previous post , I will be going on a Norwegian cruise press trip! The ship is sailing to Victoria, not far from my hometown of Vancouver B.C.
Planning well in advance, will alleviate last minute packing chaos. I'm scheduled to leave in late spring, which is still a cool time of year in the Pacific Northwest. As we all know summer doesn't really arrive til July 4th, ha ha. With that in mind, I am sharing my best tips on how to pack for a 3 day cruise to Victoria.
START WITH THE BASICS
Most likely if you are going on a short cruise, the luggage allowed on board will be limited. I know the itinerary I received for our trip, says only one carry on per person. Wow, this is a hard task for someone who loves clothes! It's also good to include items for warm weather, in case a heat wave shows up in the Pacific Northwest.
Choose basic pieces to mix and match to create different looks
- Jean Jacket
- Striped long sleeve tee
- Leggings or Jeggings
- Jean shorts
- Bathing suit
- Stretch cotton midi skirt
- Short and long sleeved tees
- Pair of Jeans
- Outerwear coat
CREATE OUTFITS FOR EACH DAY
On a 3 day cruise, most likely an outfit change will happen twice per day. Of course you will need one or two glamorous outfits, for eveningwear . I usually change 3 times a day on a cruise. There are so many events, shows, lounges and restaurants to check out. It's fun to style your outfits to fit with the vibe of the venue being visited.
As mentioned before, a short cruise means you will have to pack light. Doing things to save space, will be the trick. Don't go overboard and only bring what you need.SPACE SAVING TIPS
- Roll outfits to save space. This makes it easier to quickly grab an outfit
- Stash small items such as a swimsuit or scarf, between the rolls
- Tuck things inside your shoes
- Place shoes along the walls of your suitcase
CHOOSE A FEW ACCESSORIES
Accessories are the glue that holds your outfit together; and they add bling that may not otherwise be there. These are a few of my favorites to take on a cruise:
- Sunglasses
- Jewelry
- Fedora or floppy hat
- Slides or flip flop
Lastly, put your toiletries inside a large ziploc bag to protect your clothes. Also be sure to leave room for some souvenirs. I hope these tips save you some time and space; when packing for a 3 day cruise.
If you went on a cruise, where would you go?

ReplyDeleteHaving lived in the Puget Sound Area of Washington for many years, before moving to the Midwest, I so get your joke of summer not arriving until July 4th. Love Victoria and Vancouver, so pretty. have fun on your cruise. Love your packing tips. As a gal who loves clothes, but who usually only takes a carry on for every vacation destination, those tips were spot on.

I'm very envious! I've been wanting to go on a cruise but my husband is not so keen. If I could go anywhere, I'd rather like to do the Norwegian Fjords.

I think I could do it.. but it would be tough. We just got home from a 7 day cruise a week or so ago and I was pretty proud of myself that I managed everything I needed for 7 days tucked into 2 carry-on size suitcases... and I had one entire outfit I didn't really wear. I certainly could have made do with even less but I am a clothes girl too and loved having lots of choices! I hope you have a wonderful trip.
